PHILOSOPHY
Presently I am teaching Art classes to senior citizens who have never painted before. This has given me an opportunity to test, explore, and refine my theory about the creative process as it applies to oil painting. Working with these students over the past two and a half years has been a rewarding experience for them as well as me.
Not only did a core group end up being very successful in producing very credible results, but their finished products reinforced my theory that there are three necessary components in the journey to conquer a problem, in this case to paint a good picture: Desire, Creativity, Commitment. You must have all three of these components, but most important is commitment.
My personal painting style has evolved through the influence of the various teachers I have studied with. I favor a realistic approach to painting. My palette is based on the Prismatic Flow of Light Theory which was championed by Frank Vincent DuMond. Mr. Dumond was a famous artist and teacher at the NY Art Student's League. Mr. Dumond was a friend to other famous artists, James McNeil Whistler, John Singer Sargent, and William Merritt Chase.
